Memories of Spring A Story of Persephone and Hades Dominique Wren Books
I loved the first three-fourths of this book. It's a retelling of the Persephone myth, but also weaves in other myths and develops it into a world of its own. I really appreciated the way the author pulled it all together in the story and liked the development of the characters. I enjoyed it so much that I was able to overlook some of my issues with the writing; there were a handful of typos and a few sentences that were worded so awkwardly that I couldn't understand what they were trying to say. However, the ending completely derailed. The biggest issue with this book is that it felt like there were chunks missing. At points, the dialogue seemed to jump and I was left wondering if my copy of the book had been misprinted. The plot worked fine until things suddenly sped up. Hades and Persephone's relationship is starting to flourish and then she's sent to the surface and suddenly they're married. It implies something happened with the pomegranate, but it is never spelled out. Their relationship never had that romantic "ah-ha" moment, but then in the next chapter they're referring to each other as husband and wife and cuddling up like they're in love. As it is implied that the whole her jumping between realms thing has been worked out, but it is never spelled out. It's like the author assumed that the reader's knowledge of the myth would be enough to fill in the gaps.
It really disappointed me. Things were set up beautifully for a good rendition of the Persephone myth, but it fell apart in the end and it wasn't because the ending was stupid, but rather that it had big, gaping holes in it. I was happy where the story ended up, but was upset that I have no idea how it got there.

Memories of Spring A Story of Persephone and Hades Dominique Wren Books Reviews
I found it to be a good read and would recommend it to anyone interested in a different take on the story of Persephone and Hades.
This was an enjoyable interpretation of the classic Hades and Persephone myth. It's one of the few I've read thus far where he (tiny spoiler!) rescues rather than kidnaps her. There are other myths woven in like Orpheus and Pirithous that were done quite well. There's also an interesting twist to the story that is referenced in the title. My concern is that there are typos including missing words apparently. This made reading it a bit difficult in spots. It would be nice if it could be cleaned up a bit though I understand getting books updated through is hard. But it's too lovely a story to be bogged down by typos. Still, I'll probably purchase the paperback to add to my shelf of H&P stories and seek out the author's other works.
